R.S.V.P.
The Responsible Social Values Program (R.S.V.P.) was formulated in Columbus, Ohio, in 1986 and copyrighted in 1988. During the first three years, the curriculum was presented to over 20,000 students and has since been distributed in over 35 states. R.S.V.P. Toledo currently presents to approximately 6,000 students per year in three Ohio Counties. The program has been approved by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Adolescent Pregnancy Programs.
Method:
A variety of teaching methods are employed in order to achieve program objectives. These include: parent meeting, classroom lecture, multimedia presentation, interactive games and demonstrations, community awareness/education seminars, and small group mentoring sessions.
The two main components of our program are:
Parent meetings - Parents are affirmed as the primary sex educators and given support and information regarding increasing communication with their adolescent. They also receive information on the program content.
Classroom instruction - Students are fascinated by the scientific demonstrations, visual aids, games and multi-media presentations used to illustrate each principle. During classroom presentation, opportunity is provided for students to ask anonymous questions for which answers are provided based on factual information. Individual (non-professional) counseling and/or referral is provided as needed.
